Исследования экономической деятельности с помощью методов математической статистики. Обычно этот термин относят к изучению конкретных производств и отраслей. Если же отнести его к экономике в целом, то термин «Э.-с.и.» практически соответствует термину эконометрия. Они объединяют достижения конкретной экономики, технических наук, математической статистики и вычислительной техники. Исходя из экономики и технологии данного производства проводится качественный анализ изучаемых процессов. На этой основе методами математической статистики и экономико-математического моделирования с помощью ЭВМ производятся расчеты, делаются выводы и принимаются решения. Здесь качественный (экономический) и количественный (статистический) анализы выступают в единстве. Центральное понятие рассматриваемой дисциплины — экономико-статистическая модель. В Э.с.и. широко применяются корреляционный анализ, регрессионный анализ, методы распознавания образов, экспертные оценки и др. Наибольшее развитие эти методы получили во внутризаводском планировании, техническом нормировании, в решении задач сравнительного технико-экономического анализа деятельности предприятий.
